Crowdsourcing: If you have to ask…

“What should I do?” Nike Basketball sincerely wants Lebron James fans to weigh in on this creative new ad titled “Rise.” But is the basketball superstar ready for the honest answers?

He asks the question more times than I care to count. But he also inserted one sentence without the questionmark: “I am not a role model.”

I think we the people like being asked for our opinions. But some corporations worry that their brands are being held ransom by popular opinion expressed in social media channels.

Lebron James won’t be the last athlete/empire/brand to ask the crowds what strategic move to make next. Indeed,  many businesses wish they had tried crowdsourcing to prevent unwanted post-launch reactions (**cough**ahem-GAP!)

Whose opinion does your company seek as part of its strategy?
